Dr. Manisha Kalra is a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians (FAAFP) with over 20 years of clinical experience. As the founder of Family Medicine Shady Grove, she provides personalized, concierge-style care designed to foster deep, long-term relationships with her patients.

 

 

Clinical Philosophy & Expertise

Dr. Kalra specializes in preventive medicine and the management of chronic conditions, including hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes. A strong advocate for lifestyle-based healing, she emphasizes whole-food, plant-based nutrition and holds a certification in plant-based cooking from the Rouxbe Culinary School.

In her membership-based practice, Dr. Kalra intentionally limits her patient volume to ensure every individual receives unhurried attention. Her proactive wellness model features same- or next-day acute care appointment availability and direct communication via phone, text, or email, ensuring patients have a dedicated partner in their health journey.

Education & Background

Dr. Kalra earned her medical degree from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in India before moving to the United States to complete a Master’s degree in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at the University of Iowa.

She completed her Family Medicine residency at the prestigious Mayo Clinic program at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. During her training, she was honored as “Intern of the Year,” received the Family Medicine Resident Scholarship, and served as Chief Resident.

Professional Experience

Before launching her private practice in 2014, Dr. Kalra served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins Community Physicians in Columbia, Maryland. Her earlier career included serving as Medical Director at River Hills Community Health Center in Iowa and practicing with TriStar Medical Group in Nashville, Tennessee.

Dr. Kalra is a USCIS-designated Civil Surgeon authorized to perform immigration physicals and remains active in the Maryland Academy of Family Physicians and the Montgomery County Medical Society.
